What is La partage?
La partage is a roulette rule under which a player loses only half of an even-money bet when the ball lands on zero, cutting the house edge on those bets to about 1.35%.
The French phrase means 'the sharing'. If a player has £20 on red and the ball lands on zero, they get £10 back instead of losing the full stake. Because the zero costs only half the bet, the edge on even-money bets falls from 2.70% to about 1.35%.
The rule applies only to even-money bets: red, black, odd, even, 1 to 18 and 19 to 36. Inside bets, dozens and columns keep the standard edge.
La partage is common on French roulette tables and some online and live versions. It is similar in effect to en prison, which instead holds the bet for another spin. Because the rule halves the cost of the most popular roulette bets, it is often highlighted in comparisons of roulette variants. Tables that offer it usually state the rule on the layout or in the game information.
