How we make money
Casino Courant is free to read. To pay for it, we may carry display advertising, publish sponsored articles and advertorials, and in future use affiliate links. All of these are labelled. None of them influence our editorial content, as explained in our editorial standards.
Labels we use
Paid content is always marked at the top of the page or next to the content with one of these labels:
- "Sponsored": content paid for by a third party, which may be written by us or by the sponsor.
- "Advertorial": an advertisement written in the style of an article, supplied or approved by the advertiser.
- "Partner content": content made in cooperation with a commercial partner.
- "Advertisement" or "Ad": display advertising.
Kept separate from journalism
Paid content is also visually separated from our editorial articles and is never presented as independent journalism.
Links in paid content
All links in sponsored content, advertorials, partner content and advertisements carry the rel="sponsored" attribute, in line with search engine guidelines. We do not sell links disguised as editorial links.
Affiliate links
We do not use affiliate links at the moment. If we start to, articles that contain them will say so clearly, and an affiliate relationship will never affect our rankings, lists or news coverage.
Who we accept as advertisers
We only accept advertising and paid content that meets these conditions:
- Gambling operators must hold a valid licence in every market their advertising targets. We may ask for proof.
- We do not accept advertising or paid content for unlicensed or illegal gambling operators, or for ways to get around self-exclusion schemes such as GamStop or Cruks.
- Content must not be aimed at or appeal particularly to people under 18, and must not use people who are, or look, under 25 in a gambling context.
- Content must not present gambling as a way to earn money, solve financial problems or improve social status, and must not be misleading about odds, bonuses or conditions.
- Gambling advertising must include the safer gambling information and age warnings required in the target market.
- Content must comply with the advertising laws and codes of the markets it targets.
Our right to refuse
We may refuse or remove any advertisement or paid content at any time, without giving a reason, including content that we believe could harm our readers or our reputation. Payment does not oblige us to publish.
No paid placement in editorial content
Advertisers cannot buy coverage, positive reviews or positions in our editorial top 10 lists. If a list placement is ever paid for, it will be labelled clearly. Our editors may report on advertisers in the same way as on any other company.
