What is Slot floor?
The slot floor is the area of a land-based casino given over to slot machines and other electronic gaming machines, often its largest source of revenue.
Casinos manage the slot floor closely, deciding which machines to install, where to place them and which RTP settings to use, within regulatory limits. Machines from different suppliers are often leased on a revenue share or bought outright.
Performance is measured by metrics such as win per unit per day. Floors are frequently reconfigured as new games and cabinets arrive.
In many US casinos, slots generate the majority of gaming revenue, while table games dominate in Macau's baccarat-led market. Electronic table games, such as automated roulette and multi-terminal stadium gaming, are often placed on the slot floor too. Machine placement affects play: popular titles are often positioned near entrances and walkways. Land-based slot RTPs are typically set lower than online equivalents, partly because of the cost of floor space, staff and machine leases. Regulators usually approve each machine model and its software before it reaches the floor.
