What is Max bet rule?

The max bet rule is a bonus condition limiting the stake a player may place while bonus funds are active, such as £5 per spin, with breaches risking forfeiture of winnings.

The rule prevents players from making very large bets to try to land a big win quickly and clear wagering in a few spins. A typical term sets a cap per spin or round, sometimes as a fixed amount and sometimes as a percentage of the bonus.

Disputes over the max bet rule have been a recurring source of complaints, because some casinos have confiscated winnings over a single bet above the limit. Regulators, including the UK Competition and Markets Authority in an investigation into online gambling launched in 2017, have scrutinised unfair bonus terms.

The rule is separate from regulatory stake limits, such as the UK cap of £5 per spin on online slots for adults aged 25 and over.
