What is Sticky bonus?

A sticky bonus is bonus money that can be used to play but can never be withdrawn itself; when the player cashes out, the bonus amount is removed from the balance.

If a player deposits £100, receives a £100 sticky bonus and ends with £300 after meeting wagering, they can withdraw £200. The £100 bonus is deducted at withdrawal. Only the winnings generated with it can be taken out.

Some sticky bonuses are structured so that the player's own deposit is used first and the bonus kicks in only if the deposit is lost, sometimes called a parachute bonus.

The difference from a cashable bonus is significant for the value of an offer, and the bonus terms should state which type applies. Sticky bonuses were common when high wagering requirements were standard, and they make a headline bonus figure look larger than its real cash value. Regulators that have reviewed bonus terms have pushed operators to explain clearly how any bonus balance is treated when a customer asks to withdraw, and when it is removed from the account.
