What is Paytable?
A paytable is the information screen or chart that lists what each symbol combination or hand pays in a game, along with the rules of its features.
In a slot, the paytable shows the value of each symbol for three, four, five or more matches, usually as a multiple of the stake, and explains wilds, scatters, free spins and any other features. Many paytables also state the RTP and the maximum win. In video poker, the paytable lists the payout for each hand, from a pair of jacks up to a royal flush.
Small differences in a paytable can change the maths of a game noticeably. In Jacks or Better video poker, a machine paying 9 for a full house and 6 for a flush returns about 99.54% with optimal play, while one paying 8 and 5 returns roughly 97.3%.
Reading the paytable is the most direct way for a player to see how a game works and what it actually pays.
