What is Pass line?
The pass line is the basic craps bet that the shooter will win, by rolling 7 or 11 on the come-out, or by repeating the point before a 7; it carries a house edge of about 1.41%.
The bet is placed before the come-out roll and pays even money. It wins immediately on 7 or 11 and loses on 2, 3 or 12. Otherwise it stays in play until the point is rolled again, a win, or a 7 appears, a loss.
With an edge of about 1.41%, the pass line is among the cheaper bets in the casino. Once a point is set, players can add an odds bet behind it, which pays true odds and lowers the combined edge.
The pass line is sometimes called betting with the shooter or 'right' betting, in contrast to don't pass, the 'wrong' side. The pass line has to be placed before the come-out roll and, once a point is set, it cannot be taken down, because at that stage it is favourable to the player. Most craps players start with this bet, which is printed along the edge of the layout.
