What is Deposit limit?
A deposit limit is a cap on how much money a player can deposit into a gambling account in a day, week or month, set by the player or required by regulation.
Most regulated markets require operators to offer deposit limits. Requests to lower a limit apply immediately, while increases are delayed by a cooling-off period. Related tools include loss limits, wager limits and time limits.
Some countries mandate limits. In the Netherlands, players must set deposit, login and session limits, and from October 2024 operators must check affordability before allowing deposits above €700 a month, or €300 for young adults. Germany operates a cross-operator monthly deposit limit of €1,000 by default, with exceptions possible after checks.
Research on voluntary limits shows that relatively few players set them unless prompted, which is one reason some regulators have moved to require them. Operators report the share of customers using limits as part of their safer gambling data.
