What is White label?
A white label is an arrangement in which a brand runs a gambling site using another company's licence, platform and operations, putting only its own branding and marketing on top.
The white-label provider supplies the technology, games, payments, customer service and often the licence. The brand partner focuses on attracting players and typically shares in the revenue. This lets new brands launch quickly without building or licensing their own infrastructure.
White labels have attracted regulatory attention because the licence holder remains responsible for compliance. In 2019 the UK Gambling Commission warned licensees about weak oversight of white-label partners, and several operators ended such arrangements.
The model is distinct from a turnkey solution, where the brand owner typically holds its own licence and controls operations. Because a white-label brand does not hold its own licence, players' complaints and regulatory issues are handled by the licence holder. Regulators therefore expect the licence holder to control the brand's marketing, affiliate use and customer checks as closely as for its own brands.
