What is Video poker?
Video poker is a single-player machine game based on five-card draw poker, in which the player keeps or discards cards and is paid according to a fixed paytable.
The player receives five cards, chooses which to hold, and the discarded cards are replaced once. The final hand is paid from the paytable, for example 1 to 1 for a pair of jacks or better and 800 to 1 for a royal flush when playing the maximum number of coins. Cards are dealt from a virtual 52-card deck by an RNG, in some variants with jokers or wild deuces.
Unlike slots, video poker has a paytable that lets players calculate the exact return, and decisions affect the result. With mathematically correct play, some versions return over 99%. Common games include Jacks or Better, Bonus Poker, Double Double Bonus and Deuces Wild.
Small paytable changes affect the return significantly, so identical-looking machines can carry very different house edges.
