What is Random number generator?

A random number generator (RNG) is the software algorithm that determines the outcome of digital casino games, producing unpredictable results for each spin, deal or roll.

Online slots and digital table games use a pseudo-random number generator that continuously produces numbers. When a player presses spin, the current values are mapped to reel positions, cards or other outcomes. Each result is independent of the last, so a slot is never 'due' a win.

Regulators require RNGs and game maths to be tested by approved independent laboratories before games go live, and many require periodic re-testing. Testing checks that results are statistically random and that the game returns its stated RTP over a very large sample.

The RNG is what makes a game fair in the regulatory sense: outcomes cannot be predicted or influenced by the player. It does not remove the house edge, which comes from the payouts.
