What is Blackjack payout?
Blackjack payout is the amount paid on a natural blackjack, an ace plus a ten-value card; the traditional rate is 3 to 2, while many tables now pay only 6 to 5.
At 3 to 2, a £10 bet that receives a natural pays £15. At 6 to 5, the same hand pays £12. Because naturals occur roughly once every 21 hands, the reduced payout raises the house edge by around 1.4 percentage points, which makes it one of the costliest rule changes in the game.
Some single-deck games are advertised as player friendly but pay 6 to 5, which outweighs the benefit of fewer decks. Online and live dealer tables also differ in this rule, so the payout is printed on the felt or the game information screen.
For news coverage of casino floors, the shift towards 6 to 5 tables is a common indicator of operators increasing table game hold.
