What is Banker commission?

Banker commission is the fee, normally 5% of winnings, that casinos charge on winning Banker bets in baccarat, because the Banker hand wins slightly more often.

Due to the drawing rules, the Banker hand wins about 45.9% of rounds and the Player hand about 44.6%, with ties making up the rest. Without a commission, Banker bets would have a player advantage. With the standard 5% commission, a £100 winning Banker bet pays £95, and the house edge is about 1.06%, compared with about 1.24% on Player.

Many casinos now offer no-commission baccarat. Instead of charging 5%, these games change the payout on specific outcomes, most commonly paying only half when Banker wins with a total of 6. The edge on Banker in these versions is usually somewhat higher than 1.06%.

Commission rules are one of the main ways baccarat variants differ. Commission is often tracked with markers at the table and settled at the end of a shoe.
